Youth in Action- Sub. Action 1.1- Youth Exchanges “Creative Transformations (Creative Recycling)” Project took place in Bornova, Izmir from 25.08.2013 until 31.08.2013 and hosted by the enterprising students of Gateway Career Club which is one of the best known student clubs in Ege University.
We hosted thirty five students between the ages of 16-25 from Czech Republic, Holland and Bulgaria. We worked on Europe’s common problems “environmental awareness and recycling” with our partners by creating and designing posters, brochures and exhibitions. By this way, we aimed to inform the local people and get their attention by distributing reports about our project.
Students from Gateway Career Club volunteered to write a project on recycling and environment and applied to TR, Center for European Union Education and Youth Programmes (Turkish National Agency). With the support of Turkish National Agency, we had the chance to host many participants from different countries, learn about different cultures, exchange cultures, work as teams, introduce our country and city. It was a great experience for our future career.
The project took place in Izmir from the 25th of August till the 31st of August and lasted seven days. The participants created new practical decorative objects by using recyclable materials such as plastic, paper and cloth. In the end, we all organized an exhibition and displayed the things we created. We aimed to inform people about nature, environmental awareness and recycling.
In the end of our activity programme, the participants made presentations about their home countries to present their culture, cuisine, dance, music, We, as the hosting team, introduced the Turkish cuisine –kebab, lahmacun, döner- to our partners.
All of the participants put a lot of effort into the project and as a result we all did a great job. As we all know, exchanging cultures and learning about new cultures are one of the main aims of the European Union Education and Youth Programmes. To achieve that aim, we wanted our partners to see our beautiful city: Izmir. We all visited Ephesus, Virgin Mary’s House, Şirince Village and Özdere Beach to reward ourselves after the completion of our great project.
